James Mead, the first settler; the 35 families who settled prior to 1774; Other early settlers; a list of freeholders from 1780; Early city officials; excerpts from the 1793-1828 diary of Major Gershom Cheney; Rutland Postoffices, with a list of postmasters; Churches and clergy; Schools and school officials; Medical, Dental and Legal Professions and practioners; Municipal History from J.A. There are mini biographies of prominent residents, as well as many incidental names throughout the booklet. There are some illustrations, but their quality is only fair.
